Felt Board Stories Bowen Road

At Bowen Road our children in the Fletcher Room have been enjoying self selection with the large felt board material and the nursery rhymes. This felt board experience is set up on a large piece of material across the front part of the kitchenette, that otherwise would be bare. They then put laminated nursery rhyme pictures on. For example, humpty dumpty and I'm a little tea pot.

The children really enjoy being able to self select and also provided them with another opportunity to participate in some standing experiences reducing sedentary practices. It also provoked discussion and singing between peers and also educators.

They also liked to rotate this experience with some different felt pictures to initiate some literacy, numeracy and colour recognition

What a fabulous idea, a felt board wall will definitely encourage the children to stand and interact with the various images on display, as well as observe how their peers are interacting with the images. By integrating healthy foods onto the board and nursery rhymes that have food in them, this will  encourage some meaningful conversations with the children. Also, taking photos of the children performing different gross motor activities, laminating these and sticking on the wall would also be great to promote physical activity.
